Day 6 - Troutman Park

Date: 3/16/2012
Location:  Troutman Park
Time:  5:00 - 6:30pm
Weather:  70 Degrees and no wind
Dad, Thea, and I fished Troutman Park on the Friday afternoon and caught a few bluegill each on the small pond.  We also fished the large pond for a little bit without catching anything.  Thea caught her 5 fish near L14 and all were in the 4-6" range.  I caught 4 fish near F14, one of which was around 8" and the rest were in the 4-6" range.  Dad caught a 7-8" green sunfish at Coordinate I15.

Day 2 - Troutman Park

Date: 2/6/2012
Location:  Troutman Park
Time:  5:00 - 6:30pm
Weather:  60 Degrees and sunny with wind 0-5 mph from the Southwest

Dad and I fished Troutman Park for a little over an hour after work.  The ponds just thawed over the weekend and everything still seemed really cold and slow.  Dad fished with Yellow Gurlger with no success, even after adding a Pheasant Tail dropper late.  I fished a Royal Coachman version of the Bully's Bluegill Spider and caught just one Bluegill near F13.  I had one other bump that could have been a fish or weeds, but everything is still very slow.  There were a few rising fish as it got dark.

Catch:  1 - 7" Bluegill on Royal Coachman colored Bully's Bluegill Spider, near coordinate F13

Day 1 - Cottonwood Glen Park

Date: 2/4/2012
Location:  Cottonwood Glen Park Pond
Time:  2:30-4:30
Weather:  60 Degrees and sunny with wind 0-10mph from the Northwest

Thea and I decided to check out a new pond that we haven't fished before.  The pond is pretty small but looked like it could hold some fish.  The water is still pretty cold and I didn't see any fish at all in the shallows, not even bluegill.  We fished the North side of the pond (from H10 to Q2) for about two hours without a hit or a sign of fish.  We started with surface flies (gurglers) and then tried some nymphs and small streamers.  The pond is supposed to hold bass, crappie, and bluegill.  We will have to try again later in the season when things warm up a bit.  There are extensive shallows and the water is pretty clear, so it could be fun sight fishing for bluegill if they are active.  The park and adjacent bike trail were very busy, so it would be best to fish this on a weekday evening to avoid the crowds.   The narrow section of the pond near M9 is intriguing, as there is a quick drop off with some cattails on the shore providing structure.
