Day 9 - Troutman Park

Date: 3/23/2012
Location:  Troutman Park Ponds
 Time:  5:00- 7:30pm
Weather:  70 Degrees and no wind

Thea and I had the first really great fishing day at Troutman park.  I started fishing the large pond with a Clouser Minnow and a Black BBS, hopoing for a bass or big bluegill.  I fished this for about an hour but only managed to catch one fish, an 8" bluegill  that hit the Clouser @ coordinate U13.  Thea fished the Southwest side of the large pond all the way around to the inlet and picked up three or four small bluegill on a normal Pheasant Tail.

8" Bluegill on a size 8 grey/white Clouser:

At about 6:30 we made our way to the small pond, and as the sun started to go down, surface activity really started picking up.  We both switched over to foam spiders with pheasant tail droppers.  Thea used a yellow foam spider and I used black.  Most fish hit the pheasant tail dropper, but we both caught 3-4 fish on the surface as well.  From 6:30 until 7:30, Thea caught about 15 bluegill ranging from 4-8" on the south side of the small pond.  I caught about 10 bluegill in the J12-K12 area and also caught a nice 11" Crappie at K12.

Day 8 - Troutman Park

Date: 3/20/2012
Location:  Troutman Park Ponds
 Time:  5:00- 7:00pm
Weather:  60 Degrees and no wind

Went fishing with Chris and focused on casting practice for most of the afternoon.  I caught two small 4" bluegill on a normal pheasant tail nymph.  After practicing for about an hour with a hookless fly, Chris switched over to a Black BBS about a foot under a small indicator, and caught a nice 8" bluegill near I15.

Day 7 - Arapahoe Bends Ponds

Date: 3/18/2012
Location:  Arapahoe Bend Ponds
 Time:  4:00- 6:30pm
Weather:  70 Degrees and no wind

Thea and I took a trip to Arapahoe Bend ponds to check out the smaller ponds that we hadn't fished yet.  I caught 4 small crappie in the NW corner of Cormorant Pond.  There was a huge school of thousands of 2-3" crappie that were swimming in that corner with some good sized bass busting them.  There appeared to be a lot of nice Largemouth Bass in Cormorant Pond, but fly fishing was difficult due to the bank height and all the brush and trees surrounding the pond.  The Bass were all holding close to the banks in woody structure.  Fishing with a spinning rod for fly fishing from a float tube or Kayak is necessary for this pond.

Day 5 - Troutman Park

Date: 3/15/2012
Location:  Troutman Park
Time:  5:00 - 6:30pm
Weather:  70 Degrees and no wind

I fished alone after work with a tandem rig of a pink Bully Bluegill Spider and a rubber legged pheasant tail about 3 feet under a small indicator.  The biggest fish of the day was an 8" bluegill caught at S14.  I caught 9 more bluegill between 4-6" in the triangle from S14-U13-U14.  I also caught a 7" bluegill and a 6" Bass near T12.  Something large (Bass or Carp) swirled at my indicator at the end of the day.  Only 1 bluegill hit the pink BBS, everything else went for the rubber legged Pheasant tail.

Here is a photo of the 8" bluegill.

Day 4 - Troutman Park

I fished with Dad, Thea and Uncle Mike.  I didn't catch anything, but they all did very well.  The corner of the big pond from N8 to 08 produced a dozen 4-6" bluegill for Uncle Mike and Dad on rubber legged pheasant tails.  Dad caught 3 bass (2-6" and 1-12") near V15, all on rubber legged pheasant tails fished dead drifted with the wind under a topwater spider.  Thea caught a 7" bluegill at S13 and an 8" bluegill at Q8, both on black Bully's Bluegill Spiders.

Time:  4:00 - 6:00pm
Weather:  65 Degrees and sunny with wind 0-5 mph from the South

Uncle Mike, Dad, and I fished for a few hours on Saturday March 10th.  I caught my first bluegill (7") underneath the tree near E14.  I then caught two more bluegill at S13.  One was the biggest of the year so far at 9".  Dad caught a couple of bluegill near K14 and Uncle mike caught about 10 near S14.  My fish were all caught on Coachman Bully's Bluegill Spiders, while Dad and Uncle Mike caught their fish on rubber legged pheasant tails.
